The first season of “Kingdom” is a major hit among both zombie survival horror and Korean period piece thrillers. As a result, fans are clamoring for any details with regards to “Kingdom” Season 2. However, aside from the fact that it was already confirmed and production is underway, not much is actually known about it. The absence of information has given rise to speculations that include western characters and war with Japan.
For some context, the events of “Kingdom” Season 2 will be set during a warring time, where countries and states are vying for supremacy. As OtakuKart notes in its update, production for the second season is already underway. It would seem that it will be more organized this time, thus leading to cheaper costs and more episodes.
Production will likely take five to six months, but it could easily go over that if there is any cause for delay. The main thing that fans need to remember is that “Kingdom” Season 2 will be a lot harder to produce than most other TV shows for obvious reasons. In terms of story quality and setting authenticity, a lot of things could go wrong with this kind of project.
On that note, since the showrunners are throwing in zombies into the period drama anyway, they might as well include other fictional aspects as well. This could include western characters from Europe, which would certainly be jarring. “Kingdom” Season 2 could also add a brewing war with another country like Japan to increase the stakes for the government to deal with.
These are just speculations at this point, however, and are basically just wishful thinking by fans. If they do end up coming true, “Kingdom” Season 2 would need to handle such events with care. This would then push the premiere of the second season to somewhere around late 2020 or so.
