‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ screenwriter promised a “more crazy” sequel during a recent interview. She also praised Julianne Moore as the series’ latest main villain Poppy.
During an interview with Collider, screenwriter Jane Goldman teased that director Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated follow-up to the 2014 blockbuster hit will be “more crazy” than its predecessor. She said, “It’s more crazy than the first one, if such a thing is possible, it’s pretty crazy.”
She continued, “We’re very fortunate to have Julianne Moore playing the villain and she’s incredible. I think that people who enjoyed the first one won’t be disappointed. It’s not about trying to do something more shocking or more out there, it’s about hopefully bringing that freshness and surprise to action scenes, where they don’t go in the direction you think they’re gonna go in.”
The sequel is set to feature the return of Taron Egerton as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin, the lead protagonist from Vaughn’s first film. Egerton previously confirmed the end of production for the sequel during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival. The 26-year old English-born Welsh actor also teased, “It’s great man. We just finished. It’s going to blow everyone away.”
Egerton was first introduced as the former street punk turned Kingsman agent in the 2014 film ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ for which he won the Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer for his role. In addition to his Empire Award win, he was also nominated a BAFTA Rising Star Award as well as a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Breakout Star for his performance.
The follow-up will also feature the return of Mark Strong as Merlin, Sophie Cookson as Roxy a.k.a. Lancelot, and Colin Firth as Harry Hart a.k.a. Galahad. According to Digital Spy, rounding up the rest of the ensemble cast are Julianne Moore as Poppy, Halle Berry as Ginger, Pedro Pascal as Jack Daniels, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Vinnie Jones, and Samantha Womack.
‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’, otherwise known as ‘Kingsman 2’, is an action-spy and comedy film directed by Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn’s first film in the series, ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, received positive reviews and gained commercial success after receiving $414.35 million in the worldwide box office on a budget of $81 million.
The second installment is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017.
