LG Electronics and Magna International Inc., a global mobility technology company that is also recognized as one of the largest suppliers in the automotive industry, have signed an agreement to work together on the development of automated driving-infotainment technologies.
LG Electronics and Magna announced their cooperation on Wednesday, Jan. 4. The companies said that their tie-up is aimed at offering differentiated customer experiences in addition to facilitating readiness for the future of mobility.
The companies will seek teamwork and develop autonomous driving solutions using LG Electronic’s cutting-edge in-car infotainment technical knowledge and Magna’s driver assistance systems and self-driving car solutions.
As per The Korea Herald, their plan is to create a prototype for future solutions and jointly conduct a feasibility test. The companies will participate in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that is set to take place from Jan. 6 to Jan. 8 in Las Vegas.
LG and Magna are joining to look for new business opportunities with international automobile manufacturers. At the trade show, they will introduce the concept of automated driving-infotainment to vehicle companies and grab the chance to provide the technology to interested parties.
Under the agreement, the firms will go over the technical feasibility of integrating LG Electronic’s infotainment facilities with Magna’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and automated systems for driving. The goal is to come up with working in-vehicle infotainment (IVI)-ADAS solutions that will conform with carmakers’ programs.
“We are excited to work with Magna, now in the automated driving sector, to develop a proof of concept that could bring value expanding beyond our cockpit domain,” LG Vehicle component Solutions (VS) president, Eun Seok Hyun, said in a press release. “We plan to work closely together to demonstrate potential ADAS innovations that could help automakers address some of their toughest challenges.”
Meanwhile, this latest partnership between LG Electronics and Magna follows their first successful joint venture last year, which formed the LG Magna e-Powertrain Co. Ltd., which produces e-motor, inverters, and on-board chargers.
