Barely a month after officially completing his mandatory military service, Lee Min Ho is back to making headlines. The Korean drama superstar is confirmed to work on a new TV project that will also star “Goblin” actress Kim Go Eun.
The upcoming TV show, titled “The King: The Eternal Monarch,” is Lee’s first major project since being discharged from the South Korean military in late April. Fans may recall that the 31-year-old actor’s enlistment officially began in 2017, though his basic military training did not start until March 2018.
Earlier this month, production company Hwa&Dam Pictures announced the making of “The King: The Eternal Monarch” that will have Lee play the main protagonist role. The character exists in a parallel universe that means he has two different identities, namely Emperor Lee Gon and modern-day detective Chung Tae Eul.
The casting of Kim is the latest update on Lee’s next TV project. Same news sources reveal that the actors will begin filming this year. Fans all over the world will most likely recognize the actress for her main role on the series known as “Goblin” that aired from 2016 to 2017 on tvN.
Meanwhile, fans of Lee have been asking for a sequel of “The Heirs.” Though that one has not been confirmed yet, they are getting the next best thing as the “The King: The Eternal Monarch” will reunite the actor with “The Heirs” writer Kim Eun Sook. Interestingly, she also served as the main writer in “Goblin.” Aside from these TV shows, Eun Sook is also known for her works in other world-renowned K-dramas such as “Descendants of the Sun” and “Mr. Sunshine.”
When the news about Lee’s military service started making headlines, there were reports that the Korean drama star will retire from the entertainment business. Luckily, those turned out to be a prank. The announcement of “The King: The Eternal Monarch” just proves that Lee is not done yet in making blockbuster TV shows and movies.
