Will the MacBook Air 2018 come out later this month?
A lot of people have speculated that Apple may be ready to give the MacBook Air a much-needed update this year, and these observers are currently on the lookout for any signs of a refreshed budget-range laptop since the company often introduces new Mac devices in the month of October.
Of course, it should be noted that analysts have been waiting for Apple to confirm the MacBook Air 2018 for months now. In fact, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo initially predicted that a cheaper version of the device would come out earlier this year, but he has since adjusted his prediction to the second half of 2018.
So why hasn’t Apple introduce the MacBook Air 2018 yet if they are allegedly planning to unveil it this year? This explanation by Macworld UK's Karen Haslam is as good as any other’s.
“Speculation suggests that the launch of the new MacBook had to be delayed due to a problem with a ‘key component’ which DigiTimes suggested (in April 2018) might be the processor. Other reports indicate that Apple has given up waiting for Intel's Cannon Lake processor, which now won't be ready until 2019, and will use the Kaby Lake chips instead,” Haslam said.
As noted by Haslam, Apple has been ignoring the MacBook Air for years now, so chances of seeing an updated version of the device are actually quite slim despite all the predictions by industry experts. Yes, there have been hardware upgrades over the years, but they weren’t major updates.
Still, many believe that Apple will release the MacBook Air 2018 because they need to have an affordable laptop on the market if they want to compete with all the cheap Windows laptops available. Furthermore, the MacBook Air remains one of their best selling products despite its outdated specs.
