A series of regulatory filings were leaked and they reportedly hint at a new set of MacBook Pro 2018 models. And these documents have sparked rumors anew on the release of new Apple laptops in the very near future.
The said documents were filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission, which has regulatory jurisdiction over consumer products that enter Russia and Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, the information included in the filings (first reported by Consomac) were pretty limited. It only showed identifiers and model numbers of the supposed upcoming MacBook Pro laptops.
Of the five model numbers, three are speculated to refer to new MacBook Pro 2018 units that all have the TouchBar feature, namely laptops A1988, A1989, A1990. Meanwhile, the other two — A1931 and A1932 — are rumored as either new MacBook or MacBook Air laptops.
It has been a while since Apple released a lineup of MacBook Pro laptops that had major upgrades or sported unprecedented features. To be specific, Apple last had a grand MacBook Pro-focused event in 2016, when the Cupertino-based tech giant introduced the customizable TouchBar made of an OLED display panel.
While this is interesting information, fans are advised to still take it with caution. Some of the details included in the filings are somehow confusing and do not correspond with Apple’s known strategy when introducing a new MacBook Pro.
In the regulatory filings, all Apple laptops were labeled to operate with macOS 10.13 or the currently available High Sierra. This is somewhat absurd because Apple had consistently released a new laptop or iPhone with the latest macOS and iOS announced prior to the device launch.
Apple already announced macOS 10.14 a.k.a. Mojave last June at WWDC 2018. And since macOS Mojave is officially slated to be released this coming fall, there is really no reason for the company to release new MacBook laptop models without the latest macOS.
However, if these regulatory filings, indeed, represent upcoming MacBook Pro 2018 laptops, many expect them to be released sometime in fall. Apple fans might have noticed that the company usually unveils new hardware products close to the release of the latest OS (or sometimes on the same day) slated to go live in the same year.
