The wait for the new MacBook Pros might be down to just a few weeks. Mark Gurman, one of the reliable sources of Apple leaks and reports, recently suggested that the premium notebooks could be unveiled in an event this month.

Aside from the iPhone 13 series, new iPads, and the latest Apple Watch, the MacBook Pros have been one of the most anticipated tech product announcements this year. Plenty of reports have said they should also be announced this fall, but Gurman’s latest PowerOn newsletter has provided a more specific window for the Mac launch event.

Gurman said the upgraded MacBook Pros should be announced “in the coming weeks.” Considering Apple’s previous Mac launches, the company is likely to have another online event this month unless the tech giant decides to just unveil the laptops through a press release. While Apple is reportedly developing several new Mac products, it is unclear if there will be other major announcements to join the new MacBook Pros this month.

In the same newsletter, Gurman cemented his previous report that the 2021 MacBook Pros will ship with an upgraded Apple silicon chip that many call the M1X. The journalist also maintained the chipset’s reported specs. The M1X is expected to launch with two variants that have either 16 cores or 32 cores of GPU. Both models have a total of 10 CPU cores, eight for performance and two for efficiency.

The M1X chip may not be the only important update planned for the 2021 MacBook Pros. For months, Apple has been reported to introduce a new 14-inch form factor, along with a 16-inch laptop. The latter would be the first MacBook Pro to have an Apple silicon chip in that screen size.

Aside from improved performance, the upcoming MacBook Pros might also offer higher screen resolutions. The macOS Monterey beta 7 codes mentioned “3456 x 2234 Retina” and “3024 x 1964 Retina” resolutions, which are both not available in any existing Mac product. These would be a nice upgrade from the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro’s and 16-inch MacBook Pro’s native resolutions 2560 x 1600 and 3072 x 1920, respectively.
