“Marvel’s Avengers” is getting a major update later this month. But PS4 and PS5 players are getting more content than fans on other platforms with the arrival of Spider-Man.
Much like the earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, “Marvel’s Avengers,” developed by Crystal Dynamics, launched without the fan-favorite web-slinger. But also similar to MCU, Spider-Man is coming to the game, albeit a little later than the other Avengers. Unfortunately for PC and Xbox players, they will not be able to access Spider-Man’s story and event in the game.
The addition of Spider-Man will not be as simple as him showing up on the roster. “Marvel’s Avengers” is quite story-driven, so Spider-Man’s arrival has its own story that ties up with the base game’s plot. “Peter Parker uncovers AIM’s new plan to acquire technology that could make their Synthoid army unstoppable and total domination inevitable,” the developers revealed in a blog post. “He must partner with the Avengers to stop this looming threat, and forms a tentative friendship with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while keeping his identity hidden.”
PlayStation players can access the exclusive Spider-Man story through “unlockable challenges.” But Spider-Man’s arrival in the game might not be as smooth as it did in the movies. The developers tease that the web-slinger will have some difficulties in working as part of a team after working solo for a while. PS4 and PS5 gamers will also get access to an exclusive hero event titled “Spider-Man: With Great Power.”
Aside from the exclusive PlayStation content, the developers will also release a host of new content for all “Marvel’s Avengers” players, including the new enemy type called Echoes. The four-player Discordant Sound Raid is also slated to launch this month.
The slew of new content will be released alongside improvements part of patch 2.2. Some of the changes include the increase of the “Marvel’s Avengers” Power Level cap from 150 to 175, gear upgrading, and new weekly objectives.
The major update will finally allow players to earn cosmetics and other in-game items through the new Shipment feature. Each Shipment will cost 500 Units, which can be earned while playing the game. “Marvel’s Avengers” version 2.2 will go live on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
