Donald Trump will be spending Christmas with Melania Trump at the White House, Express reported. The first couple will be spending the day with the only child Barron.
Just like last year, the First Family will also be attending the midnight mass before Christmas day. It has always been the family’s tradition to attend mass together even before Donald Trump became President and that hasn’t changed since he took office.
Donald Trump and Melania will likely be spending Christmas Day with their only child Barron Trump. It is also possible that the President’s children from previous marriages, along with their families, might be dropping by for a visit on that day.
Melania and Donald Trump kicked off the Christmas season by participating in the national tree-lighting ceremony on December 5. The President lit the National Christmas Tree, which is an evergreen fir located at the northeast portion of the President’s Park.
It’s a tradition that was started by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1934. Trump delivered a speech before lighting the tree in this year’s ceremony.
This is the First Family’s third Christmas at the White House. For this year, Melania Trump, who is in charge of all decorations, chose “The Spirit of America” as the decor's theme.
The FLOTUS revealed that she got her inspiration for this year’s them from the people she met while traveling all over the country. Thus, her White House decorations celebrate “the courageous individuals who have shaped our country and kept the American spirit alive.”
“This Christmas season I want to honour those who have shaped our country and made it the place we are proud to call home,” Melania said. “When I travel the country, I am inspired by the hard-working people and families that I meet.”
Melania Trump also thanked those who helped with the White House’s decorations. “Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who worked to make sure the People’s House was ready for Christmas,” the FLOTUS added.
Meanwhile, the president allowed federal employees to take the day off for Christmas Eve. They would still be receiving full pay but some employees might have to report if necessary.
Granting a day off before Christmas is said to be rare among U.S. Presidents. However, Trump already did it two years on a row.
