Michael Schumacher remains the best F1 driver today even though he has walked away from the motorsports world years prior. Sabine Kehm, the racing legend’s former manager, and close friend, said that it’s Michael’s competitive nature that drove him to greatness.
Kehm revealed that even though he’s at home, Michael Schumacher takes this attitude with him and causes him to be a bad loser. Other than that, however, she said that the German driver’s attitude differs greatly when he’s on the grid, Beyond the Grid (via Express) reported.
Where Michael Schumacher would dissect and analyze everything when he’s racing, at home he’s quite laid back. “In his private sphere, he was much slower in everything he did, in Formula One everything had to be done super-fast, boom, boom. Sometimes we had crazy schedules with two-minute appointments, but privately he was totally different, relaxed,” Kehm revealed.
She continued that when Michael Schumacher is with his family, Formula One fades into the background. And speaking of family, Mick Schumacher has now joined the Ferrari driver academy, SkySports reported.
Mick has always expressed his dream of following his father’s footsteps and now the young racer is a step closer in achieving that goal. But the road will not be easy as the competition within the grid is as heated as ever. Right now, Lewis Hamilton is being regarded as the racer that will break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven F1 titles.
However, Hamilton has some competition of his own in the form of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. Motorsports analyst Tony Jardine previously said that both these drivers will provide significant hurdles for the British racer given the talents that each of them has. As for Michael Schumacher’s current health, there’s no new information at the moment.
The family has opted to remain silent about the German legend’s recovery in order to protect Michael Schumacher from the constant buzz of the outside world. Right now, it’s been reported that the racing icon is not bedridden anymore, although his convalescence is far from complete.
