One of the biggest disadvantages when owning consoles is the matter of limited hard drive space. With physical discs, this really isn’t a problem, but more and more gamers are now turning to digital copies. In order to help its Xbox One and Xbox One X owners get the most out of the memory storage that they have, Microsoft is rolling out what it calls Intelligent Delivery that helps save space.
On top of helping to minimize the amount of space that data will be occupying in their respective consoles, Xbox One owners can apparently also expect download times to be faster with this new system, Eurogamer reports. Intelligent Delivery basically allows gamers to choose which particular data they need to download or preserve, thus deleting everything else that they don’t want.
For example, if players would prefer not to download 4K assets with the games that they want to play, they’ll be able to opt out of that. The new system apparently even supports multi-disc games, which is not supported in the current build of the console.
The feature was reportedly first revealed during the Microsoft XFest, which was an event for developers held earlier this year. During the event, it was shown that the data selection process can be broken down into certain categories by attaching tags to them. When it comes to language-specific data, for example, any language sets that the players don’t believe are necessary can simply be ignored.
That last part can be particularly useful for games like FIFA, which has substantial multi-language support, Engadget reports. If players already downloaded the game, they can still get rid of the languages they don’t need by simply selecting them and hitting delete. This is undoubtedly going to be a popular feature for the consoles, especially given how huge some games are now becoming.
