Mike Tyson's return to the ring will finally be happening on September 12, wherein he will go up against another legend in Roy Jones Jr.
Tyson and Jones, also a four-division world champion, will be slugging it in eight rounds in what will be an exhibition match to be sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission.
The bout will be held in Los Angeles, at the Dignity Health Sports Arena.
According to CBS Sports, pay-per-view will be airing the Tyson vs. Jones match as well as Triller, a social media platform.
Triller is reportedly coming up with a 10-part docuseries of the match's behind-the-scenes and pre-match footages. Two episodes of the docuseries will air every week in a run-up to the match.
Tyson, who was the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, has been hinting of his comeback for months with videos of him sparring going viral.
At first, it was thought that he would go up against current heavyweight champions.
It was also rumored that he would be having the exhibition match against Evander Holyfield. Apparently, that is no longer happening as Tyson has already found his opponent.
Jones is by no means a lesser boxer, if he was, Mike Tyson would not have chosen him as he had said that he would go up only against a legitimate boxer and not any athlete or celebrity who is making a crossover to the sport of boxing.
The 51-year-old Jones is one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport. He started at the middleweight class, where he won titles before moving up to super-middleweight and then the light heavyweight.
In a historic move, Jones then moved up to the heavyweight division and went on to defeat John Ruiz to become the heavyweight champion of the world in 2003.
Jones, last fight was in 2018 while the 54-year-old Tyson last fought in 2005, wherein he lost to Kevin McBride. He retired after that bout but briefly went back in 2006 and fought Corey Sanders in a charity exhibition bout that was aired on pay-per-view.
Interest may have waned in having Mike Tyson return to the ring, but many boxing fanatics would still love to see him fight again. And, with Roy Jones Jr. in the mix, this match is sure to be awaited.
