Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended U.S. President Donald Trump’s preparedness for his second term, highlighting a clear roadmap for achieving his goals. Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Modi emphasized Trump’s vision, calling him "far more prepared than before." The interview, spanning over three hours, covered diplomacy, artificial intelligence, and global trade.
The discussion comes weeks before Washington’s planned reciprocal tariffs in April, which could impact Indian exports in sectors like automobiles and agriculture. Despite past trade disputes, Modi and Trump agreed to resolve tariff issues and aim for a $500 billion bilateral trade goal by 2030.
Modi praised Trump’s leadership, emphasizing their shared commitment to putting their nations first. "His ‘America First’ spirit resonates with my ‘India First’ approach, which strengthens our bond," Modi remarked.
Addressing India’s regional relations, Modi noted improving ties with China following a key agreement to ease military tensions along their Himalayan border. "Trust and energy will return, but it will take time," he said, referring to efforts to restore relations after the 2020 skirmish.
On Pakistan, Modi remained hopeful for peace but acknowledged past challenges. "Every peace effort was met with hostility, but we hope wisdom prevails," he stated.
The podcast, which Fridman called one of the most "powerful" conversations of his life, showcased Modi’s strategic vision while reinforcing India’s stance on global trade and diplomacy.
