“My Hero Academia” season 4 could have premiered this week, however, it was previously announced that it will be released in fall. The anime series has had a very consistent release date window since 2016 which might have left some fans wondering what caused the sudden change.
Last December, it was confirmed that “My Hero Academia” season 4 will not arrive until October. This might have surprised many fans simply because seasons 1 to 3 all had release dates within the first week of April. The first installment aired on April 3, 2016, followed by season 2 on April 1, 2017, and the latest series on April 7, 2018.
OtakuKart suggested that major delay might have been caused by another popular anime series. “My Hero Academia” season 4 and its predecessors were all produced by the Japanese animation studio Bones. The company has several other projects for 2019 including the second season of “Mob Psycho 100,” which concluded its 13-episode run on Monday.
Aside from “My Hero Academia” season 4 and “Mob Psycho 100” season 2, Bones is working on two other projects this year. The company is currently producing an original work titled “Carole & Tuesday” and “Bungo Stray Dogs” season 3 that is slated to premiere in Japan on April 10 and April 12, respectively.
However, another plausible explanation circulated in social media on why “My Hero Academia” season 4 cannot have a spring release date just like in the past three years. The series, created by Kohei Horikoshi, has been airing on Nippon TV and YTV since 2017. Unfortunately, a new anime series — “MIX” — will be occupying the usual timeslot given to “My Hero Academia.”
Whatever the real reason for the delayed release date of “My Hero Academia” season 4, most fans are likely just happy they are seeing more of Midoriya’s adventures on TV. Specific release date in October has yet to be announced.
