The NBA and the NBPA are launching The Association NFT, a new non-fungible token (NFT) concept in which the design of the collectible will be dynamic and vary over time.
The NFTs' look will change depending on how well players perform on the court. The more successful a player is throughout the season, the more their NFT will vary aesthetically.
On Friday, 18,000 NBA Playoffs participants will be minted, 75 for each of the 240 rostered players. Almost 2,000 NFTs will be given to Dapper Labs' NBA Top Shot NFT owners, who are among the best collectors of each NBA team on Top Shot.
With the exception of the Top Shot reserved tokens, the majority of NFTs will be distributed to people on a "allow list." Fans who are early joiners of the NBA Discord group and connect their digital wallet to the initiative's website qualify on a first-come, first-served basis. The waiting list is already overflowing.
Unlike Top Shot, which focuses on video highlights, the NBA's latest project is more akin to collecting cards with a dynamic twist.
The NBA NFTs will be minted on Ethereum and the gas will be paid in ETH.
