The closer “NCIS” season 16’s premiere is, the more spoilers are revealed. Special Agents Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) are likely going to have their moments. Meanwhile, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is likely coming up with a new rule this season.
Fans who have watched season 15 might already have an inkling that Torres and Bishop’s childish skirmish here and there might turn into something romantic in “NCIS” season 16. This was previously confirmed by co-showrunner Frank Cardea, telling TVLine, “Torres and Bishop sort of… become close.”
Torres and Bishop went undercover in season 15 to investigate a drug ring. To convince the suspects they were investigating, Bishop kisses Torres and fans immediately compared their chemistry to that of Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo). But nothing major is likely happening in “NCIS” season 16 if the writers decide to develop Torres and Bishop’s relationship just like Tony and Ziva's.
It can also be recalled that Gibbs’s rule no. 12 is to never date a co-worker. While Gibbs’s rules are not set in stone, it somehow became a sacred commandment to everyone part of his team. So it will be interesting to see how Bishop and Torres handle a budding romance in “NCIS” season 16 while also working on the same team with Gibbs.
Speaking of Gibbs’s rules, it has been a while since the fans heard of a new entry. While answering a fan question (via TVLine), executive producer Steven Binder revealed that coming up with a new rule is “always a possibility" in the series. But there is a much bigger chance for that to happen in “NCIS” season 16.
Binder explained that they welcomed two new writers for “NCIS” season 16. “Usually our new writers are the ones who like to create a new rule, so I wouldn’t be surprised,” Binder said. “The rules create themselves, to fit a need in the story.”
“NCIS” season 16 opens with a huge dilemma involving Director Vance’s (Rocky Carroll) disappearance. The season premiere is likely ending with a conclusion to this ordeal as the series returns on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
