ABERDEEN, MD., June 2, 2016 -- Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) and Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle) announced today that their joint venture, National Defense Energy & Environmental Alliance, LLC (E2A), has been awarded the first competitively bid task order issued under the National Defense Center for Energy and Environment (NDCEE) contract that was announced in May. The NDCEE contract is a $122.5 million, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ), multiple award contract. The funded value of this task order is approximately $164,000 and the period of performance is 12 months.
The purpose of this task is to produce test data that can be used to qualify citric acid passivation of corrosion resistant stainless steel Army aircraft components without the use of a chromate sealer.
When exposed to an oxygen environment, stainless steel forms a chemically inert passive surface layer, increasing its corrosion resistance. However, foreign material from the manufacturing environment such as sulfides added for improved machinability or particles of iron from cutting tools may become embedded in the surface of stainless steel parts, inhibiting the formation of the oxide film and reducing the overall corrosion resistance. Many sectors of the commercial stainless steel market have embraced the use of citric acid passivation, and several commercial bath formulations are available.
"We're pleased that we won the first task order issued under the recently announced NDCEE contract. We look forward to collaborating with our client and our talented teammates at Battelle on this important project," said Edward J. Sheehan, Jr., CTC President & Chief Executive Officer. "CTC and Battelle have extensive experience and expertise in this area, and we're ready to begin work right away."
The NDCEE was established with the directive to serve as a national leadership organization to address high-priority environmental, safety, occupational health, and energy requirements for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal government organizations, and the industrial community.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment is the Executive Agent of the NDCEE.
