One of the world’s most iconic JRPG franchises is coming and Square Enix just announced quite a few things about it that will get fans going. For starters, the publishers have released new gameplay footage of Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time. The company also announced the release date of Dragon Quest X in Japan, which is the series’ MMORPG.
The footage that the publisher released is over an hour long, full of demonstrations on various mechanics with regards to DQ XI. The PlayStation 4 version of the game is prominently featured on the video from the 31:00 mark to 46:00, PlayStation Lifestyle reports.
One of the most interesting parts about the single-player title is the addition of “Restricted Play,” which is basically like “Survival Mode” in games like Fallout New Vegas. It allows players to turn off the shop option inside the game, which forces them to scrounge for supplies instead of buying them from merchants.
Anyone interested in the release date of DQ X, Square announced that it would be available in Japan on August 17th for the PS4. That date is only for Japan and release dates in Western markets have yet to be determined.
For those wondering about the Switch version of MMORPG, some of the minds behind the title were asked a few questions during a recent live stream, Gematsu reports. To say that Yosuke Saito, one of the producers of the game and franchise creator Yuji Horii were cagey about giving away any details would be an understatement.
“We can’t say about anything concrete regarding the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI,” Horii said. “When the timing comes that we can say something… there are grown-up reasons.”
“When the time that we can say something does come, I think we’ll have something to say, so if you can please wait,” Saito said.
