When it was confirmed last week that a Dark Souls remaster for the first game in the series would be released in May, fans of the punishing series were overjoyed. Not only will they be able to play the first game in the official Dark Souls franchise again, it will be with better graphics and fidelity. However, for those expecting the game to sport some new assets, this is simply not the case.
In a recent post on the PlayStation Blog, Bandai Namco confirmed a few details about the Dark Souls remaster that should clarify a few things about the game to fans. For the good news, the game will feature 4K resolution, which should make PlayStation 4 Pro owners happy. The game will also run on 60 frames per second, which many have come to question if it would even be possible on the console.
As it turns out, hitting that coveted FPS rate is indeed possible on the PS4 Pro, but it won’t come with HDR for this particular game. The remastered version also won’t feature new assets to mimic those used in the sequels. This can be good or bad, depending on the kind of player that will get the game.
Those who are already familiar with the engine and graphics of the original Dark Souls game will be able to pick it up and get to playing without much trouble, Comicbook.com notes. Those who are more used to the second and third games will most likely need to devote some time to adjust.
In any case, the game is still expected to be the same unforgiving player death-fest that it has been since the original’s release. The fact that it will have multiplayer support should also bring cheer to gamers who are likely already praising the sun.
Dark Souls Remastered will launch on May 25th for all platforms, even including the Nintendo Switch. The gaming community already expects a lot of broken handhelds as a result of this development.
