The open Beta for “Titanfall 2” is coming, but it will only be for the console versions of the game. PC users will be excluded from the event for the simple reason that certain individuals will inevitably try to get more out of the game than the developers want to give out. Respawn will not risk data mining by unscrupulous players who will crack PC versions of the Beta for some additional information that they would then leak.
As Kotaku reports, data mining has been part of the PC gaming experience since it became explosively popular several years ago. Developers release an early version of the game, programmers proceed to crack it open and get the information buried under the sea of codes. These details are then leaked, spoiling certain parts of the game for anyone who reads them.
Respawn has seen this far too many times, which is why the studio will not risk data mining by releasing a PC version for the Beta. This is what the developers wrote on a post, at least.
“Because the single player story has some wonderful secrets that we really want to preserve for launch, we also have to worry about leaks,” the post reads. “Our wonderfully curious PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there’s a risk that they could spoil some of our single player.”
As for the Beta itself, owners of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles will have the chance to try two modes and two maps, Polygon reports. One of the modes is the 5v5 “Bounty Hunter,” which involves depositing loot without getting killed, and the other is “Pilots vs. Pilots,” which involves a fight without “Titans.” Both modes are available on the “Boomtown” and “Homestead” maps, which are the two that come with the Beta.
