In a rather unexpected turn of events, it would seem that Nokia is coming back in a major way by capitalizing on the nostalgia that a lot of customers still feel regarding its old phones. Its 3310 remake is so popular, it actually caused some to tear up. Trying to ride the rising waves in recognition, a new mid-range phone that costs $229 is coming to the US.
Without a doubt, nostalgia can be a powerful force. Upon showcasing the reimagined version of the 3310 in Barcelona, Spain, for example, some of the attendees were so overwhelmed by the memories of using it that they actually cried, The Australian reports. The phone was the work of HMD Global, which now owns the rights to the property.
According to the company’s boss, Arto Nummela, demand for the phone has been massive. Literally, every market wanted to get their hands on the throwback device.
“I haven’t found a single country who doesn’t want to have a Nokia phone, so we are going to launch everywhere in the world. There’s such a deep connection to the Nokia brand. It’s a very human brand, it’s everybody’s brand,” Nummela said.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that the company is going to use up its resources on nostalgic products and sacrifice innovation. HMD is also bringing the Nokia 6 over to the US around July, Business Insider reports.
For those who might be worried, the phone is equipped with an Android Nougat OS, so access to apps won’t be a problem. It also sports a Snapdragon 430 processor, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, and 3GB of RAM. All in all, it’s a decent offering that provides much considering the price. Naturally, publications are holding off on their opinions regarding the device until it can be thoroughly tested.
