Nvidia Corporation said on Monday that it has created a hardware and software platform for building humanoid robots. The software firm also added generative artificial intelligence (AI) features to power the robots.
The Project GR00T
Nvidia’s new platform has a computer system that will power AI and the robot. The software package also includes other tools that will allow the creation of human-like robots. As per Reuters, the integration of generative AI will drive humanoid machines to act according to input, which will combine video sources, language, past experiences, and human demonstrations.
Nvidia has named the addition of genAI to robots Project GR00T. The AI module will be added to the firm’s existing hardware and software platform for robotics.
In any case, robots powered by Generalist Robot 00 Technology (GR00T) will be made to understand natural language and imitate movements by observing human actions and activities.
New Computer: Jetson Thor
The company also revealed a powerful new computer as part of the project. It is called Jetson Thor which is behind the genAI software for humanoid robots based on the Nvidia Thor system-on-a-chip (SoC). This will give the robot enough computing horsepower to successfully execute complicated tasks and communicate with people and machines.
“Building foundation models for general humanoid robots is one of the most exciting problems to solve in AI today,” Nvidia’s chief executive officer, Jensen Huang, said in a press release. “The enabling technologies are coming together for leading roboticists around the world to take giant leaps towards artificial general robotics.”
Agility Robotics’ co-founder and chief robot officer, Jonathan Hurst, commented, “We are excited to partner with NVIDIA to invest in the computing, simulation tools, machine learning environments and other necessary infrastructure to enable the dream of robots being a part of daily life.”
