Fans of the Fallout Series would likely know that Fallout New Vegas is something of a spin-off from the main series that is still inherently tied to the same universe. The studio responsible for the widely praised post-apocalyptic title was Obsidian and recently, rumors about a sequel being in the works have been circulating around the gaming community. Unfortunately, any hope for Fallout New Vegas 2 was quashed by Obsidian’s denial that it was working on a title in the series.
In an email sent to Kotaku, Mikey Dowling, the PR manager at Obsidian wrote that the studio was not working on any property related to the Fallout franchise. He stressed that Obsidian is currently busy with its fundraising campaign to finish development of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, which is an actual sequel in the works.
“We’ve said plenty of times that we’d love to work on a Fallout again if Bethesda wanted us to, we just aren’t at this time,” the email reads. “Right now we’re very focused on the Fig campaign to make our first ever sequel in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Whenever a new Fallout comes around though, whoever is doing it, we all look forward to playing it!”
That’s about as firm of a denial as rumors go, which puts FragHero in a difficult position. The publication was responsible for spreading the rumor in the first place by posting an article indicating that instead of Fallout: New Orleans, a New Vegas title was coming.
According to the site, it received the information from an insider source that proved reliable in the past. The publication has admittedly been correct in predicting the development of titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last Of Us 2, which does provide FragHero with a certain level of credibility. Then again, since Obsidian itself is denying working on such a project, it would certainly appear that perhaps the publication got a bad tip this time.
