Buying any product is always a risk if there is no refund policy in place and until recently, this was the case with virtual reality apps for the Oculus Rift. Now, the Facebook-owned company is finally offering refunds for games bought for the Rift or the Gear VR. Anyone who has bought games on Steam will likely find the system familiar.
In a newly added Refund Policy page on Oculus’ website, the company explains when a refund is possible and who is eligible to get their money back. The gist of the policy, however, is that the request for a refund must be posted 14 days after purchase and should not have been played for more than two hours.
“We will refund many digital purchases you’ve made through Oculus for any reason if the request is made within fourteen days of the purchase date and you have engaged with the content for less than two hours,” the page reads.
The policy description further states that customers can contact Customer Support in case they are unable to qualify for the automated refund. Oculus did add the caveat that it can end the Refund Policy at any time it wants and for any reason. This is the same with other companies, but it’s worth nothing, even so.
As Engadget notes, customers can ask for refunds for any app, game, or simulation that they bought from the Oculus Store. However, the refund does not apply to movies or any app, game, or simulation that came bundled with movies.
Downloadable content and other in-app purchases are also not part of the Refund Policy. As such, microtransactions are not going to be eligible for a refund, which customers will definitely need to take note of. For items that do qualify for a refund, Oculus claims that the process will take five days or less to complete.
