Katakuri and Luffy have been fighting ever since Pedro sacrificed himself to buy the Thousand Sunny more time. Luffy chose to get left behind as well to delay some of the forces chasing the Thousand Sunny as Pedro's sacrifice, while noble, was not enough to fully let the Straw Hat pirates' ship escape. While the Thousand Sunny may be relatively safer after the last episode's developments, it looks like “One Piece” episode 854 will focus more on Luffy and Katakuri's battle.
Last episode, Big Mom made use of every trick up her sleeve to catch up to the Thousand Sunny. Thankfully, the Straw Hat pirate helmsman, Jinbei, stepped up and showed just how an experienced pirate helmsman would evade Big Mom's pursuit. But Luffy and Katakuri's battle in the Mirror World still rages on in “One Piece” episode 854.
Luffy and Katakuri's fight has lasted for four episodes and has been more about the endurance of the pirates as they pummel each other endlessly. Luffy's only chance of overpowering Katakuri in “One Piece” episode 854 is by using his Gear Fourth technique which, if unsuccessful, would leave the Straw Hat pirate captain vulnerable to retaliation.
“One Piece” episode 854's preview trailer mentions that there is a chance for Luffy to be reunited with the rest of the Straw Hat pirates through a piece of mirror. The question fans may be asking themselves in anticipation of the potential climax of the Luffy-Katakuri battle is if Luffy will finish off Katakuri before reuniting with his crew. If Luffy is able to escape the Mirror World while trapping Katakuri in the alternate dimension, Luffy may not need to use his Gear Fourth technique.
Fans looking forward to finding out if this is finally the conclusion of Katakuri and Luffy's Mirror World brawl can catch “One Piece” episode 854 when it airs on Sept. 23.
