The announcement of “One Punch Man” season 3 is going to be very interesting for some obvious reasons. Many fans have commented on how the animation quality from season 1 was purportedly not maintained on season 2.
Some critics blamed the sudden change of production studios amid season 2's development. Others have started to call for the return of season 1 director Shingo Natsume for “One Punch Man” season 3.
'One Punch Man' season 3 production: Will Shingo Natsume direct the next installment?
The success of season 1 was greatly attributed to Natsume and the studio Madhouse. So many were surprised when it was announced that season 2’s creative team was completely changed. Viz Media, J.C.Staff, and other parties involved in the production of season 2 have yet to address the criticisms directly.
Their silence did not stop the petitions and online calls for Natsume's return to direct “One Punch Man” season 3. Fans who have joined the cause would be glad to know that Natsume confirmed he did not turn his back on the series as many have feared.
In an Anime Fest panel last October (via Redditor u/UttiSiseppe), Natsume was asked for his opinion on season 2. The question made the director smile before answering, and he appeared to have given an honest answer. “Personally, of course, I wanted to do it. But this cannot be done just by myself — I’m a freelance director,” Natsume explained. He then added, “I wanted [J.C.Staff] to do [a better] job [with season 2].”
Unfortunately, Natsume did not discuss, nor was he asked about his views on “One Punch Man” season 3. But given that the anime director implied he would like to continue working on the series, fans should not rule out the possibility of having him back in the third season. Note, though, that the final decision depends on company executives that license and produce the series.
'One Punch Man' season 3 release date
Viz Media has several things to decide on before confirming the production of “One Punch Man” season 3. And since season 2’s Blu-ray/DVD copies will be released in several volumes until March 2020, the announcement of the third season’s release date may not happen anytime soon.
