The OnePlus 12R is reported to be coming to the US and other regions as a more inexpensive choice, and now the Chinese version of the smartphone has disclosed that one cost-cutting strategy would be the usage of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors.
OnePlus 12R Will Be Powered By Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Processor
The OnePlus Ace 3 was recently introduced in China today, as per 9to5Google. This is the smartphone that will form the basis for the OnePlus 12R, offered in various markets across the world. The gadget has some impressive specifications, but it is clearly a step down from the flagship OnePlus 12 that was introduced in China last month.
Some of the key changes include:
- 50MP main camera backed up by 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro
- Bigger 5,500 mah battery, but no wireless charging
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
The biggest noticeable difference is that OnePlus swapped out the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from the OnePlus 12 for last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the OnePlus 12R, which is still a plenty-capable CPU for the appropriate price.
However, there are certain similarities between the two gadgets. The display on the OnePlus 12R, for example, will be fairly similar, with a BOE screen measuring 6.7 inches at 27721240 and an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. It features the same peak brightness of 4,500 nits as well.
OnePlus 12 Now Has 12GB RAM As Standard
The OnePlus 12 has already been released in China, but the worldwide release is still a month away. According to recent reports, the OnePlus 12 will provide at least 12GB of RAM on the worldwide market, while its budget-conscious counterpart will remain at 8GB.
According to 91Mobiles source leaker Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus 12 in India, which is the global model, would be available in two configurations. The first OnePlus 12 edition will feature 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the second will have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
This is consistent with the Chinese version, which also includes a 24GB option, although there has been no indication about a global distribution until now. It's also worth noting that OnePlus appears to be bypassing the 24GB category, at least in India and possibly elsewhere.
While the OnePlus 11 had a 16GB/512GB tier, the basic model only had 8GB of RAM instead of 12GB. It's a significant boost that brings OnePlus' release in line with Google's Pixel 8 Pro, which also features 12GB of RAM. Notably, the Galaxy S23 Ultra continues to start at 8GB.
Aside from that, the OnePlus 12R would begin with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and would be followed by a variation with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. As previously announced, OnePlus will debut the OnePlus 12 series internationally on January 23, and the OnePlus 12R will be available in regions spanning North America and Europe.
