The OnePlus 6T is speculated to be released this month and fans of the device are already on the edge of their seats waiting for the company’s announcement. The smartphone has been hailed as a “flagship destroyer” due to it having specifications that closely rivals high-end devices but coming at a considerably lower price mark, Express reported.
And with the OnePlus 6T set to outshine its predecessor, it’s expected that the number of the fans of the device will further increase. There’s also the fact that the company is breaking away from its traditional way of improving the T variants of the smartphone line.
In the past, a T version didn't feature a drastic overhaul that would make the smartphone stand out. Now, the Shenzhen-based company will change all of that as the OnePlus 6T will have a fingerprint sensor beneath its display rather than on the back of the device.
OnePlus CEO and founder Pete Lau said that their goal with their decision of transferring the sensor is to provide a far more convenient user experience. Indeed, by putting the fingerprint sensor on the front, users will have better access to it since the front is where the thumb naturally rests when holding a smartphone. However, it’s not all good news for the OnePlus 6T as the company opted to take out the headphone jack for the upcoming variant.
OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said that it was difficult for them to forego the jack but ultimately decided to ditch it in order to make room for improvements on the OnePlus 6T. The previously discussed sensor was one of the things that ate up the space of the jack.
The other improvement is the OnePlus 6T’s superior battery life compared to its predecessor. The OnePlus 6 sported a 3,300 mAh battery while the upcoming T variant will supposedly have a 3,700 mAh one. Fans have heavily requested the company to improve their device’s battery life and this was the company’s response, although it did come with a cost.
"When we started OnePlus, we set out to make the best possible smartphone, but making a great phone doesn't mean putting every component available into the [OnePlus 6T]," Pei explained. "You've got to make decisions that optimize the user experience, and understand that at times things that provide user value can also add friction.” Pei went on to say that their decision was also influenced by their survey which revealed that majority of their user base is already using wireless headphones anyway.
So foregoing a headphone jack for the OnePlus 6T was a logical decision for the company rather than excluding it for the sake of keeping up with the trend. As for the release date of the OnePlus 6T, the company has yet to announce when exactly the device is going to hit the market. But rumors have it that it’s going to be on Oct. 17.
