OnePlus is expanding its lineup of tech products in 2021 with a rumored OnePlus Band. It is expected to be the company’s first attempt at selling a wearable device and is expected to launch in early 2021.
OnePlus Band release date, pricing, availability
First, OnePlus should not confuse the OnePlus Band with a recently confirmed smartwatch from the same company. Android Central’s sources indicate that the fitness band will be advertised as a budget-friendly device and would be billed as a competitor of the popular Xiaomi Band 5.
The OnePlus Band is expected to be the first wearable device the company will officially release, so the smartwatch might not be unveiled anytime soon. The fitness band is also reportedly slated to be launched a few weeks before the OnePlus 9 series, so an announcement might take place between January and February.
As for the OnePlus Band’s availability, the company is following a familiar strategy it has been practicing for new products. It is expected to initially launch in India for ₹3,000 or around $40, but it could be released in more territories at a later time. India has been a favorite testing ground for OnePlus’ new products like the OnePlus Nord and its array of new smart TVs last year.
If the OnePlus Band pricing will not drastically change for its global release, that really puts the fitness band in close competition with the Xiaomi Band 5. The latter is currently priced at around $37 on Amazon.
OnePlus Band specs, features
Some of the reported similarities between the OnePlus Band and the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 include the AMOLED screen, water resistance feature, and a battery life that lasts for several days. It is worth noting that the Mi Band 5’s battery is promised to last up to 14 days with less than two hours of charging time.
To compete with the Mi Band 5, the OnePlus Band should launch with other health and fitness-related features. The most common features among wearable and fitness trackers nowadays include heart rate and sleep monitoring functions. Most bands also support an array of professional sports or workout modes.
