‘Outlander’ season 2’s episode 13, entitled “Dragonfly in Amber”, is scheduled to premiere on July 9 after skipping broadcast for the fourth of July weekend. Executive producer Maril Davis and lead actor Sam Heaughan teased a “heartbreaking” finale.
According to Carter Matt, season 2’s finale will finally air on July 9 after being delayed by the fourth of July festivities. It was reported that Starz decision was prompted by the possibility of low ratings since people tended to stay outdoors for the holidays.
The historical time-travel television series based on Diana Gabaldon’s popular novels of the same name was not the only show to experience a broadcast delay on the July 4 weekend. ‘Bones’, ‘Girl Meets World’, ‘Major Crimes’, and ‘The Bachelorette’ has also been rescheduled.
The incoming episode is directed by Philip John and written by Toni Graphia and Matthew B. Roberts. An excerpt from the synopsis released by Starz stated, “Flashing forward to 1968, Claire travels to Scotland with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna, and meets Roger Wakefield. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Claire finally reveals the truth to Brianna about her time travel through the stones, her life in 1700’s Scotland, and Brianna’s true parentage.”
It seems that Claire (Caitrion Balfe) will finally tell Brianna (Sophie Skelton) about her real father to which she is met with resistance. Brianna refuses to believe the strange circumstances of her conception but Roger (Richard Rankin) becomes intrigued. Brianna and Roger may possibly play key roles in the future of the series and may be introduced as main characters in preparation for season 3.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that the season finale will follow two distinct timelines. In addition to the modern-day timeline, the story will also cut back to the 18th century during the Battle of Culloden. In the promo, Claire and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are seen contemplating a difficult and ultimately bittersweet separation. At first, Claire hesitates with the thought of leaving but is eventually convinced by Jamie for the sake of their safety.
According to Scotland Now, Heughan together with executive producer Maril Davis revealed that episode 13 will be quite an emotional conclusion. Davis said, “It’s so heartbreaking. I don’t cry anymore at playbacks because I’ve seen the stuff so much. I cried like three times. The music is wonderful, the writing is amazing. I mean Caitriona and Sam are heartbreaking. Get your tissues and your whisky because you’re going to need it.”
Heughan added, “I haven’t actually seen the last episode. Obviously I was in it somewhere. I just remember it being very emotion and critical, actually. The time is getting so close to zero hour, to the point that they have to stop history from happening and whether or not they do is the spoiler.”
‘Outlander’ season 2’s finale, entitled “Dragonfly in Amber”, is scheduled to premiere on Starz on July 9.
