‘Outlander’ season 3 finally has an official release month. The popular time travel television series will be returning to Starz sometime in the fall of 2017. Meanwhile, lead actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe appeared in a video as they said goodbye to their Scotland set in preparation for production in South Africa.
According to Deadline, the third season of Starz’ British-American historical time travel television series based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of novels of the same name has finally been scheduled to return to the small screens in September 2017. Although no date has been announced as of the present, fans can expect to see the return of the television series in the fall.
Heughan and Balfe are set to return in the lead roles as Jamie MacKenzie Fraser and Claire Randall/Fraser, respectively, as the series goes on its highly-anticipated third season run. Season 3 will consist of 13 episodes and will be based on the novel ‘Voyager,’ the third in Gabaldon’s series.
Starz’ President of Programming Carmi Zlotnik said, “While ‘Droughtlander’ will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety.”
Zlotnik continued, “The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible.”
Production began last September 2016 and will end in June 2017 and will be moved from Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa in March where sea voyage scenes will be filmed. Heughan and Balfe appeared in a video to say goodbye to their Scotland set and joked about finally being able to ditch layers of costume in preparation for the warmer South Africa set.
According to Variety, the series will pick up after the events of season 2, right after Claire travels through the mystical stones back to her present life in the 1940s. Claire and Jamie must endure living separate lives as they attempt to find their way back to one another.
‘Outlander’ season 3 is expected to return to Starz sometime in September 2017. The third season was renewed together with the fourth season back in June 2016.
