“Outlander” Season 4 is reportedly going to follow the plot of “Drums of Autumn,” the fourth book in Diana Gabaldon's series. While the writers remain reticent about how they’re managing to fit the whole novel into a single season, there is already a lot of information gleaned from various interviews of the cast.
For instance, it’s already been confirmed that Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) will play an integral role in “Outlander” Season 4. Brianna is reportedly going to travel back in time and see her real father. However, the journey is fraught with danger and tragedy as the character is expected to suffer a sexual assault in the hands of the show’s new villain, Irish pirate Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), Town and Country Mag reported.
Speleers is already being hailed as a great addition to “Outlander” Season 4, with the compliments coming directly from the show’s executive producer. "Stephen Bonnet is a pure psychopath and a narcissist whose day-to-day is, 'What's going to pleasure me?'" Matt B. Roberts said. "He's also a chameleon. He can act like anybody and fit into any situation, and that's what makes him so different. You never know what you're going to get with him."
Sam Heughan, the actor playing Jamie Fraser, is also impressed with how Speleers brought the pirate to life onscreen. Heughan said that Speleers “committed” so heavily to his role that people will hate his character as the plotline of “Outlander” Season 4 unfolds.
Of course, his villainy will be tempered by the romance of Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe), which will further blossom in the next installment. The previous season saw both the characters survive a shipwreck that cast them into the unfamiliar land of North Carolina. Now, Jamie and Claire are set to build the foundation of their new home in “Outlander” Season 4, a home that will be called Fraser’s Ridge.
The next installment is going to feature a lot of historical references as it’s set in the 1760s, a time when slavery was rampant. Fans can expect violence, romance, overcoming of struggles, and a lot of heavy tension when “Outlander” returns on Nov. 4.
