There’s still no news about “Overlord” Season 4 and how Madhouse will move forward with regards to how they’ll be adapting the light novels’ story. So far, the studio has followed a formula of three volumes per installment but that’s expected to change in the upcoming entry.
The reason being is that Madhouse will be hard-pressed at cramming all the story of volumes 10-12 in “Overlord” Season 4 given how large its plotlines are, especially book 12. To further complicate matters, volume 12 and 13 have been written as a two-part story, which makes it difficult for the studio to set up and end those plotlines for the fifth installment, MonsterAndCritics reported.
While Madhouse hasn’t revealed anything yet, it’s speculated that the reason they’re quiet about “Overlord” Season 4 is because of this very subject. In fact, the studio hasn’t even announced the creation of the fourth installment yet.
No news about where the production of “Overlord” Season 4 stands either. And amidst all these difficulties is the underlying narrative of the series’ ending. Author Kugane Maruyama said that he doesn’t plan on milking the story of Ainz Ooal Gown and is eyeing to tie all the loose ends somewhere in volume 20.
This is despite that fact that the author admitting he still has plenty of ideas left in how to expand the plot. Thus, barring any delay or problems behind the scenes, the series could end in 2025. As for the release date of “Overlord” Season 4, there are two speculations that are being discussed by the community at the moment.
If Madhouse decides to cram all the stories of volumes 10-13, the fourth entry could come out this year. However, fans should expect a lot of scenes in the source material to be left out given that “Overlord” Season 4 will likely only have 13 episodes.
On the other hand, if the studio decides to wait for volume 15 and make “Overlord” Season 4 a two-cour installment, its release date could drop on 2021. This is due to the fact that volume 15 hasn’t even been written yet and there’s no telling when Maruyama will finish it, especially since releases of volumes has plagued the novels in the past.
