The second anniversary of season 3 premiere is happening in a few months, and fans still have not heard anything about the anime’s future. What this suggests is that it could take more than two years before “Overlord” season 4 is released.
‘Overlord’ season 4 release date rumors
At this point, not even the production of “Overlord” season 4 has been announced. It is then safe to assume that any project relating to the future of the isekai anime series has not happened yet. At this rate, with the number of months remaining this year along with the COVID-19 pandemic already disrupting anime schedules, one can only assume that new episodes are very unlikely to arrive in 2020.
It is then not surprising if the wait for “Overlord” season 4 takes three to four years. It should also be noted that the franchise is not new to having a very long hiatus in between anime seasons. While it is unlikely that the anime adaptation is getting canceled, it is still better for fans to expect to wait that long before seeing what happens to Ainz next.
The uncertainty around the production timeline of “Overlord” season 4 should also be a good reason for anime fans to catch up on the light novel series. While the stories between these versions are practically unchanged, they use a different approach to storytelling. So it is still worth it to read earlier volumes despite having seen the events from seasons 1 through 3.
Last year, there was a miscommunication when Kugane Maruyama, so-bin, and anime screenwriter Yukie Sugawara attended the AnimagiC convention in Germany. The latter was reported to have confirmed “Overlord” season 4, thus, starting the speculations. But a fan who saw the panel interview corrected that Sugawara only mentioned season 4 as being very likely to happen but not officially confirming it.
‘Overlord’ season 4 spoilers
“Overlord” season 4 is going to be exciting as Ainz begins his journey as an emperor of the Sorcerer Kingdom. He will have to struggle with the fact that he does not know much about making laws and governing people and other creatures. There is also the continuing power struggle and politics in gaining new alliances and maintaining his power over the territories he already seized.
