The latest anime installment of “Overlord” concluded more than a year ago, but fans have yet to hear about “Overlord” season 4. It is understandable for some fans to get worried about the anime series’ status. But there are other possible explanations why it has not been announced other than the show getting canceled.
Where is ‘Overlord’ season 4, and why it hasn’t been announced yet?
The anime adaptation is based on the original “Overlord” light novel that has seen slower progress in recent years. The first three seasons each had 13 episodes that covered three light novel volumes. This means “Overlord” season 4 would be about volumes 10 to 12.
However, there are only 13 volumes out at this point, while volume 14 will be released in Japan on March 12 and no definitive schedule for future releases. This could mean that if “Overlord” season 4 comes out with 13 episodes this year, the gap between the anime series and the light novel will be too close without enough source materials in the bank.
It should also be noted that the official English translation of volume 12 is not set for release until June 9. If “Overlord” season 4 is slated to cover the events of volumes 10 to 12, it is very unlikely for the anime to release new episodes before the volume 12 becomes officially available to non-Japanese readers. It then only makes sense that the wait for “Overlord” season 4 could be longer than any hiatus fans have seen before.
On the other hand, the much simpler explanation to the lack of any update about “Overlord” season 4 could be that its production has just not been arranged yet. Madhouse produced the first three seasons, and most fans are hoping to have them again in future installments. However, the non-announcement of the fourth season could be suggesting that nothing is set in stone yet.
‘Overlord’ season 4 spoilers: Ainz struggles as the ruler of Sorcerer Kingdom
“Overlord” season 4 will pick up from the establishment of the Sorcerer Kingdom, which Ainz achieved through his immense power for the most part. The next season will most likely start by showing how Ainz initially struggles with his new role as soon as he realizes that being a king needs him to be knowledgeable in lawmaking.
