The PlayStation 4 Pro only came out recently but it seems console gamers might not have to wait too long for the next generation in souped-up gaming engines. The PS5 is already rumored to release in 2019. What’s more, speculations are putting the console’s power at 10 Teraflops or more in order to achieve true realism. It is also predicted to come out when 4K TV adoption reaches its peak.
For the moment, Microsoft holds the honor of having the most powerful console on the market with the Xbox One X. Supposedly capable of true 4K gaming, the company is touting the game box as the only way to actually experience the highest resolution of relevant titles. Sony is going to be betting on this aspect as well, which might be three years from now, Extreme Tech reports.
The publication is getting this idea from industry analyst Michael Pachter, who states that 2019 is the likely date due to 4K TV penetration. As of right now, there are only a few people who even own units with that kind of resolution and for good reason. The media content that allows for such viewing and experience are still limited.
After a few years, however, the American market might reach up to 50 percent saturation in terms of 4K monitors and TVs, which is when releasing a video game console capable of taking advantage of such resolutions would make the most sense. Hence, the speculations of a 2019 release.
In addition to the 4K aspect, however, Gaming Bolt notes that the PS5 could even sport a Ryzen CPU upon its release. This would certainly improve the console’s situation in terms of graphical performance. After throwing in a sprinkle of 10 Teraflops of power, photorealism could be achieved, provided the focus is actually directed at the right place.
