Fans of the battle royale video game “PUBG” are in for a major surprise once the “PUBG” Global Invitational (PGI) 2018 is over. It was recently confirmed that a set of major patches with much-needed improvements will be released soon.
Most of the “PUBG” fanbase is most likely tuned in to the PGI 2018, which commenced on Wednesday. But while the tournament happens, PUBG Santa Monica community lead Sammie Kang discreetly confirmed that “a big update” is due to arrive shortly after the PGI 2018 ends.
The PGI 2018 will run until July 29. This year's venue is at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.
“PUBG” player Kevin O’Connell said on Wednesday via Twitter that while he exclusively plays the game, its stability and performance issues are hard to overlook. “I have love for it, it's just severely repressed due to the constant issues,” he added.
We have a big update coming up right after PGI. There will be some UI/UX improvements and QoL changes. Hope that addresses some of your frustration. After that, we will continue to work on other things that cause issues for our players.

Kang, who was mentioned in O’Connell’s social media post, replied, saying, “We have a big update coming up right after PGI. There will be some UI/UX improvements and QoL changes. Hope that addresses some of your frustration.”
Beyond that, Kang did not specify any patch notes or adjustments that will be applied to “PUBG.” But she promised that the developers are continuously working to address “other things that cause issues for our players.”
“PUBG” is one of the first successful battle royale-themed titles to hit the gaming market. It broke all-time records of concurrent PC players even before it came out of Steam Early Access. However, UI and optimization issues have plagued the game over the recent months, and the developers’ approach further disappoints the fans.
Last May, “PUBG” developers addressed these prevailing issues altogether. They promised to prioritize the areas that are mostly mentioned in user complaints and reports. The “PUBG” team identified improving overall gameplay performance, UI optimization, and continuously reducing the number of cheaters as the focus of upcoming patches.
Meanwhile, PUBG Corporation also announced its “five-year vision” with regards to eSports during the opening of PGI 2018. The video game company is looking to sustain its own, self-funded eSports model that will cater to professional players down to amateur fans.
In a press release, PUBG Corporation confirmed that they will be organizing “amateur events” to make “PUBG” more visible in a wider eSports community. Meanwhile, it will continue to host “regional leagues” leading to “world championship events” to accommodate the professional players.
