PepsiCo has achieved a self-imposed goal of saturated fat reduction four years ahead of schedule.
Currently, only 1.1g of saturated fat per 100 calories is included in about three-quarters of its portfolio of "convenient meals" items, which includes its Frito-Lay division.
Additionally, less than 100 calories from added sugars are currently present in 53 percent of PepsiCo's beverage portfolio volume per 12 ounces. serving and 1.3 milligrams of salt per calorie for 66 percent of its array of easy foods.
The announcement was made by PepsiCo as part of its annual Environmental, Social, and Governance policy report.
The report noted that other goals had been met, including increasing operational water use efficiency by 18 percent, obtaining the majority of the electricity needed for operations from renewable sources, and increasing Black managerial representation to 8.3 percent and Hispanic managerial representation to 9.5 percent.
PepsiCo chief sustainability officer Jim Andrew said their aim is to decouple so their business can grow sustainably while decreasing environmental impacts.
Andrew added that there's still much more work, and they will continue investing in action, innovation, and partnerships that enable us all to realize a more sustainable future.
