With fiercer competition in the smartwatch market this year, the newcomer Pixel Watch may benefit from having a competitive price. And it appears to be the case as the new report suggests its retail cost could sit between the Apple Watch Series 7 and the new Galaxy Watch 5.
The smartwatch market will be a little more competitive this year. After Samsung announced its new slate of Galaxy Watches a few weeks ago, Apple is expected to unveil its new Apple Watches next week. And later, Google will launch its first Pixel Watch as well.
With this much competition from leading tech brands, pricing becomes an even more important factor to woo consumers. And 9To5Google reported, citing “a source familiar with the matter,” that the Pixel Watch with cellular connectivity could cost $399 in the United States.
If Google does not change that pricing plan before the Pixel Watch launches this fall, it puts the Google device in better competition price-wise against Apple’s product. Note that the price of the Apple Watch Series 7’s Bluetooth/Wi-Fi variant also starts at $399.
Samsung would have a slight advantage, though. It's 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE connection only costs $359. But the same report noted that the small price difference might not matter that much if consumers consider that the Pixel Watch is confirmed to feature stainless steel casing from recycled materials and sapphire crystal.
While the imminent release of the Pixel Watch is no longer a secret, Google has remained mum about most of its features and technical specifications. An earlier app code analysis, however, suggested that it could be powered by an older Exynos 9110 chip along with an unknown co-processor. The device could make up for the dated chipset by having more than 1.5GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Google revealed what the Pixel Watch would look like back in May, while it is keeping the band options under wraps. But an earlier report claimed Google is working on a wide array of bands that uses seven types of materials and designs.
The Pixel Watch will be launched alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. But Google has yet to announce a specific event date in the fall.
