PlayStation 5 is confirmed to be Sony’s next-generation gaming console. The company already announced a list of hardware specs, but its price tag is still under wraps.
However, the lack of official price information from Sony has not stopped the speculations. From information leaks to analyst predictions, the anticipated cost of PlayStation 5 vary. So it is interesting when a German online publication surveyed thousands of gamers and asked them how much they are willing to pay for the next-generation console.
PlayStation 5 price: Gamers willing to shoulder $200 increase
An online poll is currently up on the CHIP.de website asking gamers, “What is the maximum amount you would pay for the PlayStation 5?” As of this writing, more than 6,100-page visitors have participated in the survey and shows that most of them are ready to pay 600 euros or more than $670 for the upcoming gaming hardware.
The next largest chunks of poll takers answered that they would not mind spending between 400 and 500 euros (~$448 to $560) to get their own PlayStation 5. The said survey is still up on the website, and people can still partake in the poll.
As mentioned, Sony wants to keep the price of PlayStation 5 a secret and might not be confirmed until the console’s official unveiling event. But lead systems architect previously commented Sony is hoping to introduce the console at a price that is going to be “appealing” to the consumers.
It is impossible for Sony not to impose a price increase on PlayStation 5 compared to PS4’s cost with the high-end specs it is built with. But Cerny’s statement could also be suggesting that the price tag will not be staggering, unlike other predictions that it could go as high as $800.
PlayStation 5 specs, release date, features: What to expect
Cerny confirmed some details that were reported through leaks from last year. PlayStation 5 will run on a 7-nm Zen 2 Ryzen processor with an AMD Navi CPU. Its storage will be powered by a solid-state drive (SSD) famous for its much faster memory bandwidth than HDD.
Sony also wants to keep the suspense going when it comes to the release date of PlayStation 5. But with many details already out in public, many are anticipating the console to be officially unveiled and have its retail release date sometime in 2020.
