With only a couple of days left in April, Sony has unveiled the list of games that will be offered for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers throughout May. Earlier leaks became a reality as “Battlefield V” is confirmed to headline next month’s offering.
List of free games for PS Plus in May is unveiled
Sony announced Wednesday the next three video games that can be accessed without additional cost through the PS Plus service. One of the highlights in the lineup is DICE’s “Battlefield V,” which may have also surprised some fans considering the seemingly tight partnership between EA and Xbox.
The inclusion of “Battlefield V” for next month’s PS Plus free games suggests EA may not have exclusive arrangements with Microsoft, although their partnership was previously fortified by the addition of the EA Play library to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. On the other hand, reaching as many audiences as possible with “Battlefield V” makes plenty of sense for EA’s business since DICE recently confirmed that the next “Battlefield” main series title would launch later this year.
In the official blog post for the next PS Plus free games, “Battlefield V” has been listed for the PS4 console. But the game can run on the newer system PS5 through backward compatibility.
The survival game “Stranded Deep” is also confirmed to be part of the PS Plus May 2021 free games lineup. The main premise is players have to face the challenges after being involved in a plane crash that leaves them stranded somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Aside from scary creatures, players will also have to save themselves from starvation, thirst, and exposure.
The intense racing video game “Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Die Last” completes the PS Plus free games for May. Subscribers can start adding these games to their library starting May 4, which is also the same day the “Wreckfest” PS5 version will launch. While the game originally launched on PS4, the official announcement has made the distinction that the game is only offered for PS Plus members with PS5 consoles.
What’s leaving PS Plus this month?
With three new games arriving in May, free titles offered throughout April are going to leave PS Plus in a few days. In the same blog post, Sony reminds subscribers that they only have until May 3 to add “Oddworld: Soulstorm” (PS5 only), “Days Gone,” and “Zombie Army 4: Dead War” to their libraries.
