When it comes to PC games, data mining has become such a common part of the routine that developers have come to expect it, at this point. Battlegrounds by PlayerUnknown is no different and when the industrious miners gave the title a good digging, they found lots of interesting secrets buried under the pile of codes.
It would seem that the game still has about 54 items hidden from view if the discovery of the data miner is to be believed, Game Spot reports. These items range from skins for the players’ avatars to some truly inspired tools and weaponry.
The data miner posted his findings on Reddit, under the username DevinWatson. On top of the usual fair of clothing items, there was even something called a poison apple, which could apparently be used as a grenade. As for its purpose, it would be easy enough to guess that it’s meant to kill opponents when they eat it.
It’s worth noting that some of the items that were discovered have been made into official, usable in-game elements. There’s the hooded trench coat, for example, which is already part of the game. However, the majority of them have not yet been confirmed to be part of the main title.
In related news, it would seem that Battlegrounds recently eclipsed Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in terms of the number of users, PC Gamer reports. The game racked up a record 239,000 players, which briefly beat out CS: GO’s 238,000. The record didn’t last very long, but it was still impressive considering the age difference between the two games.
What’s more, Valve’s premiere multiplayer shooting game recently hit 500,000 players, so it’s not really all that surprising for Battlegrounds to go way down the rankings. Once the game finally leaves Early Access, an influx of players is already expected, especially since the game has sold over 4 million copies so far.
