One of the most anticipated aspects of Sony’s next-generation console, PlayStation 5, are the games that will be compatible with it. With several key details still under wraps possibly until its launch draws near, the list of titles that will launch is likely to remain a secret for some time as well.
However, recent rumors claim that Naughty Dog is working on an all-new game developed especially for PlayStation 5. Additionally, some highly anticipated titles have also been confirmed to be compatible with the next-gen console.
PlayStation 5 games: Naughty Dog to launch a new IP?
The Santa Monica, California-based video game developer is one of the highly acclaimed studios owned by the company under its Sony Interactive Entertainment division. It is best known for the games like the “Uncharted” series and “The Last of Us” with a sequel still in the pipeline. So when claims that Naughty Dog has something in store exclusive for PlayStation 5, it was enough to keep the rumor mill going.
The speculations began with a post on 4chan claiming Naughty Dog’s “secondary team” presented the new IP intended for PlayStation 5 at a recent meeting with Sony marketing execs. The source added that the developer has yet to decide on its title, but it is currently internally called “Stray’s Cross.”
The rumored PlayStation 5 game is reportedly an action-adventure title — a genre that Naughty Dog knows so well. But it is implied that it will differ from “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us” by having a steampunk theme at some capacity. As usual, however, it is best to take this report with a pinch of salt until Naughty Dog or SIE makes an official announcement.
PlayStation 5: Major titles are compatible with next-gen console
It might also take a while before official parties confirm the rumored Naughty Dog game. But on the bright side, other developers have already confirmed that their upcoming games will be playable on PlayStation 5. The recent one to that is Techland Publishing, the developer of “Dying Light 2.”
In an interview with Wccftech at E3, last month, the studio’s chief technology officer Pawel Rohleder confirmed that they have always planned for “Dying Light 2” to be a cross-generation game. That means it will be playable on currently available consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as its upcoming predecessors PlayStation 5 and the Project Scarlett hardware. Techland has announced a 2020 release date for the game while PlayStation 5 is speculated to be launched within the same year.
