“Pokemon GO” has been something of an enigma in the video game industry for some time now, particularly with regards to how it is still so popular. One reason could be the polish that the developers had thrown into it and the regular events that it holds. One of its upcoming offers is giving top players some actual power to decide where some PokeStops are going to be in Brazil and South Korea.
As Engadget reports, Niantic is giving its top players the opportunity to place actual PokeStops in both Brazil and South Korea. Now, not every choice is going to be honored and this is more of a nomination process than anything else. However, it’s still quite the interesting concept, especially given how it gives actual “Pokemon Go” players a tangible reward.
On the other hand, there is also the matter of how this process could give way for Niantic to collect data on its players that it can use to develop its other augmented reality (AR) games. So it might not be applied only to “Pokemon Go.” This is worth noting so that players won’t be caught unawares if they see their submissions used for other AR titles.
It’s also worth pointing out that there are certain criteria to be met before submission is even considered. Nomination is only open to level 40 “Pokemon Go” players, for starters, and the locations should be appropriate. As Eurogamer notes, public parks are fine, but places for adult entertainment are certainly not.
Of course, given the demographic that “Pokemon Go” caters to, it’s more than possible for Niantic to receive several inappropriate nominations. If it can sort through the filth and find the nuggets of gold; however, there’s even a possibility of turning the nominated areas into a Gym. This is quite the exciting prospect for fans of the game.
