‘Poldark’ lead actor Aidan Turner gets to keep his shirt on for season 2 as he returns on September. Meanwhile, BBC ordered a third season to be screened on 2017.
According to The Guardian, Turner will be returning to the small screen to portray the titular Captain Ross Poldark in season 2 of the British drama television series adapted from the historical novels of the same name authored by Winston Graham. The BBC drama peaked with more than 9 million viewers in the Sunday slot last year.
Turner’s Poldark was first introduced as an army officer who returns to his family’s Cornish tin mines after the American War of Independence only to find his life and estate in ruins. He attempts to restore his family’s fortunes by reopening the mines. He goes on to help the people in the village while gaining control of the mines sought after by the greedy George Warleggan (Jack Farthing).
The series shot to fame after Turner’s shirtless scything moment became the most talked out programs of 2015. The scene caused quite a stir that it was voted top TV Moment by Radio Times readers as well as named TV Moment of the Year at the National Television Awards in January.
Unfortunately for eager fans, 'Poldark' series creator and writer Debbie Horsfield said that Turner will be keeping his clothes on for the incoming season. “Unfortunately autumn is very chilly in Cornwall, so he won’t be doing any in that,” Horsfield said.
Eleanor Tomlinson returns with Turner as his on-screen wife Demelza. New cast additions include John Nettles, Gabriella Wilde, and Hugh Skinner. According to The Week, Turner teased that 'Poldark' season 2 will be quite the joyless welcome for Ross and Demelza. He said, "Ross and Demelza have just lost their child, his company is down the pan, they're broke and he's been arrested. It looks like he's going to prison… It's a cheery beginning."
Meanwhile, the show has been officially greenlit for a third season by BBC ahead of season 2’s premiere. According to Telegraph, 'Poldark' season 3 will adapt Graham’s fifth and sixth novels. A spokesman said that season 3 will be filmed in more locations across Cornwall and Bristol late this year in time for its debut on 2017.
Mammoth Screen director Damien Timmer said, "Poldark is a passion project for all of us, and it's with real excitement that we prepare for both the launch of series two and our return to Cornwall to shoot series three…. Winston Graham and Debbie Horsfield's extraordinary flair for storytelling means the saga of Ross, his friends and enemies will go to even more thrilling places."
‘Poldark’ is a period drama television series broadcasted on BBC One. It premiered on the network on March 2015. An earlier version of the television series aired between 1975 and 1977.
