Two Polkadot governance referenda were recorded as executed Saturday, including a 2.1 billion DOT supply cap and a proposal for a protocol-owned dotUSD asset on Asset Hub.
A market snapshot put Polkadot (DOT) near $1.16 at 4:12 a.m. ET (08:12 UTC) Oct. 17, compared with $1.27 on Oct. 10, a gap of about 8.7%. EconoTimes’ Oct. 16 snapshot placed DOT at $1.1437 after a 4.833% increase over the preceding 24 hours. The readings are dated reference points from separate snapshots.
Referendum #1710 sets the maximum supply at 2.1 billion DOT. Annual issuance fell to 55 million tokens from 120 million on March 14, 2026. The cap limits total supply, while the issuance change reduces the annual flow of new DOT; that change alone does not establish whether demand has shifted. The supply measure builds on an earlier Polkadot overhaul.
DOT also serves roles in staking, governance and network-fee payments on Polkadot, alongside its trading role.
Referendum #1944 assigns $2.5 million in DOT for initial liquidity in a pool with dotUSD, and $2.5 million in Tether (USDT) for minting dotUSD. The plan calls for a protocol-owned asset and a DOT-dotUSD pool on Asset Hub. It follows an earlier OpenGov approval for dotUSD.
Both referenda are recorded as executed. Neither execution entry confirms dotUSD’s supply, market depth or use.
