PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUGB) is rising as one of the most popular online multiplayer shooting survival game in the world and like any title, it has rules. A popular streamer at Twitch recently got banned from the game by flouting these rules in keeping with his irreverent and disrespectful nature. This should have been bad enough, but it seems the player even went as far as threatening the game’s developer with actual violence.
Twitch personality Dr. DisRespect is quite the character. He regularly makes it a point to play as a villain during his sessions and swears like a salty truck driver. This garnered him a considerable number of viewers on the video sharing platform. Unfortunately, it also caused him to be banned when he shot his own teammate while playing Battlegrounds, Kotaku reports.
In PUGB, there is the feature to shoot teammates, but there is also a rule against intentionally killing them. Doing so can result in an immediate suspension once the offender is reported and since Dr. DisRespect committed the act with over 10,000 viewers watching, the developers could hardly ignore it.
Now, it’s worth noting that the streamer’s suspension is temporary and the Doc did not really take it too personally. In fact, he and PlayerUnknown even had a Twitter banter about the ban. Unfortunately, things escalated when the offender finally threatened to do physical harm on the developer, which was not appreciated.
"If I could do the splits I'd roundhouse kick you in the next. But since I can't, I'll just front kick you in the chest instead," Dr. DisRespect Tweeted.
To a lot of his fans, it was clear that the Doc was only joking and was simply staying in character. PlayerUnknown didn’t think this excuse was good enough and responded accordingly.
“Suggesting violence is the best way to solve a disagreement is just wrong, even if you are playing a character...” the PUGB developer wrote.
Over at TwitLonger, PlayerUnknown provided further explanation for taking Doc’s words seriously, saying that they do come with consequences. Apparently, the threat had hit a nerve related to a traumatic experience. This is why PlayerUnknown reacted the way he did.
