Porsche AG is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its legendary 911 sports car model. To mark this special day, the company has teamed up with the German sneaker maker, Puma SE, to release limited-edition footwear.
The German automobile manufacturer specializing in high-performance sports cars, sedans, and SUVs is collaborating with Puma to design shoe pairs inspired by the classic and modern editions of the 911 iconic car model.
According to Car and Driver, Porsche is actually celebrating not just the 60th anniversary of its 911s, but the year 2023 also marks the brand’s 75th year as an active manufacturer in the global auto industry. Both occasions prompted the company to create a number of commemorative merchandise, such as the new Puma sneakers.
Porsche and Puma have introduced the “Retro” and “Heritage” sneakers for the celebrations. As suggested by its name, the Retro features a classic design. It has been described as a casual pair of shoes that put on display the style and fashion trend of the 1970s.
The aesthetic design is inspired by one of the earliest editions of the 911 S 2.5, which was completed in 1972. Porsche and Puma chose light blue as Retro’s main color combined with red stitching and laces. The companies will only release 1,972 pairs of this sneaker design.
Motor1 reported that the Heritage presents a contrasting design because this is the modern style - inspired by the Retro edition. The light blue-gray color is highlighted by a pale brown lining and red laces.
The shoes feature individual numbers to commemorate Porsche 911's legacy. Porsche and Puma are releasing just 1,963 pairs of the Heritage sneakers. Both Retro and Heritage come with Porsche’s 911 logo, showing its 60 years of existence.
In any case, the collaborative footwear will be available on Sept. 5 at a special pre-sale event at Porsche’s pop-up store that will be put up at the upcoming IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany. They will also be available for online orders starting Sept. 6 via Shop.Porsche.com. The sneakers will retail at $160.
“The sneaker models specially designed for the anniversary reflect the impressive history of the iconic sports car: the Retro Sneaker symbolizes the past and the Heritage Sneaker the present of the Porsche 911,” Porsche previously said in a statement.
