The first part of “Power Book II: Ghost” has ended last week with the “The Gift of the Magi” episode. There will be no broadcast this week as the show is now on hiatus after the mid-season finale.
As per Entertainment Weekly, people behind the show have no choice but to split the season and release the next half at a later date. The reason for this was the COVID-19 pandemic.
While filming “Power Book II: Ghost,” the virus forced the filming to stop so the next five seasons were not completed. Fortunately, the production has resumed but it is not certain if the filming schedule will not be interrupted anymore. If everything goes well, fans can expect the show to return within the first half of 2021.
Finale recap
The last story before the drama took a break was the episode 5 of the “Power Book II: Ghost,” the first spinoff of the popular American crime drama that was created and produced by Courtney Kemp in partnership with 50 Cent.
In the finale that was outlined on TV Line, Davis Maclean and Cooper Saxe teamed up to get Tariq. They want to put him in jail so they will reveal in the court Tasha is not the real culprit who shot James “Ghost” St. Patrick.
Things will be really difficult for Tariq in “Power Book II: Ghost” because Saxe and MacClean’s plan means that he will be pinned into the crime. Plus, he will be put on trial as an adult now since he just turned 18.
Ghost’s son is totally unaware of the plan against him and it seems that they could easily hold him down because he just sort of confessed about shooting his father. This happened during his birthday party in episode 5 after Sax’s niece, Riley, drugged him. He went to Raina’s grave and started to speak about his wrongdoings.
Spoilers and release date
When part 2 arrives with “Power Book II: Ghost” episode 6, Tariq will be very vulnerable as powerful people are planning to take him down. Tasha may help his son in some way once she figures out what’s going on. Showrunner Courtney Kemp further teased that the second part would be more intense.
“We always do a big shift, and this season I thought it was very interesting to have that pivot be around when Tariq turned 18,” she told EW. “This is because now he's a man in the eyes of the law and that changes things.”
Kemp further teased that the upcoming episodes “Power Book II: Ghost” will be more exciting and focused on Tariq. Since he is now an adult, his life would be more complicated.
“It gets so much more intense and all of the relationships get much more complicated,” she said. “Tariq made some decisions, some familiar faces from Power show back up. It's intense.”
