Global sports brand Puma has partnered with Web3 mobile game UNKJD Soccer to bring its licensed content into the blockchain gaming space. The collaboration is set to increase player engagement and promote mainstream adoption of Web3 technology.
Puma Enters Blockchain Space with UNKJD Partnership
The latest collaboration in Web3 gaming is Puma's (the worldwide sports brand giant's) foray into blockchain technology.
Web3 mobile game UNKJD Soccer and the German footwear company have formed a partnership to use Puma-licensed content in the game.
Friedman: Puma Partnership to Unlock New Player Experiences
According to UNKJD CEO Tal Friedman, the company aspires to unleash more player experiences through its cooperation with Puma.
According to what Friedman told Cointelegraph, the new cooperation has the ability to showcase Web3's capabilities and set the stage for the battle for public adoption:
“[Puma’s] involvement lends significant credibility and visibility to the space, accelerating its acceptance. When established brands like Puma embrace Web3, it signals a shift in the perception of blockchain technology — from niche to mainstream.”
Because of the collaboration, new Puma-based characters will be available with unique skins and abilities that will change the game.
Puma Builds on Black Station Metaverse Launch
The announcement follows three months after Puma debuted Black Station, a 3D metaverse experience, advertising itself as a "experiential home" for product drops and designed to grant "unbridled access" to holders of Puma Pass NFTs.
The immersive Web3 gaming environment is a target for Puma's continued expansion.
In the words of Ivan Dashkov, director of innovative marketing tech at Puma, "ongoing priority" for the footwear behemoth is the maintenance of partnerships.
In a statement that was shared with Cointelegraph by the director:
“Gaming continues to be a key part of our all-encompassing culture as we enjoy interacting with our audience in engaging interactive digital spaces. As a brand with deep roots in both gaming and soccer, this partnership was a no-brainer and such a natural fit for us to engrain ourselves with UNKJD Soccer.”
UNKJD’s Hybrid Gameplay Appeals to All Gamers
With the first Puma-related content set to debut shortly, UNKJD combines street soccer with fantasy gameplay and strategic RPG features to appeal to casual and competitive gamers alike.
According to UNKJD's Friedman, Puma's collaboration with the organization might mark a "pivotal moment for mainstream crypto adoption" and the rise of play-to-earn gaming:
“Puma has the ability to introduce Web3 technology to a wide and diverse audience… Major brands like Puma recognize that Web3 is not just the future — it’s already here.”
During its soft launch, UNKJD was able to onboard 75,000 players; the full release is scheduled for early 2025.
